Thursday aboard the Spew Express

Today was our biggest challenge yet with LOTS of driving. After waking up in Smithton, we had a turn on a hurdy-gurdy before we left our accommodation...Bad idea. The school bus was renamed the Spew Express before we reached Somerset!!! We stopped here for a break, morning tea and a toilet stop. Travelling from Somerset to Zeehan tested our tummies again, requiring a stop at Hellyer Gorge along the way.

When we reached Zeehan (with a sigh of relief) we visited the Monster Museum, run by a lady named Gail. The museum had lots of interesting creations including a chair made out of hands, Michael Jackson and Frankenstein!! We were even given our own maggot to take home!

Upon arriving in Queenstown we went to the railway station to pick up our tour guide for the Mt. Lyell mine - his name was John. It was really interesting to see the acid water, the open cut in the mine and the headshaft. We learnt a lot about the mine and it's operation. It was great!

After a long day on the bus we went for a walk to a lookout and a lake at Queenstown to work up an appetite. Our hosts for the night, St. Joseph's, did not disappoint!! We ate extremely well with the school community looking after us. Hopefully we can return the favor one day! We finished the evening with a quiet movie in preparation for our drive home tomorrow. See you all soon!!

Wednesday - the midway point!

This morning we woke up bright and early again just after 6. Our first stop was Tasmazia where our challenge was to find Miss Turnock in the middle of the Great Maze at the Three Bears House. Campbell was victorious using an ingenious strategy to find a way through!! After some off us had massive pancakes from the Pancake Parlour we rested outside listening to the giant turkey.

On the way to the Nut we stopped at a park in Wynyard to have lunch and stretch our legs. Once we reached Stanley we enjoyed a scenic chairlift to the top of the Nut. Even though it was drab and drizzling, the view was outstanding!!!

Our accommodation for the night was Riverbend which is huge - we have a lounge, a games room and a basketball court at our disposal!!! We weren't there long before we went to Tall Timbers for dinner. Their pizzas were delicious and filling.

Back at camp we held our talent show. The acts were the Whippers, the Lollypop Girls and Rump Steak. Lollypop Girls won the evening with a fantastic choreographed dance act!

Off to bed for a long sleep before a longer day tomorrow...

Tuesday - Day 2

This morning we were all woken up bright and early at 6 or before by an energetic kookaburra signing in the old gum tree! We had breakie and packed up quickly leaving us with enough time to visit the Batman Bridge. We got at least 3 truck honks and a car beep!

Once off the bridge we made our way to the Launceston Aquatic Centre where we spent two hours in the pool. We enjoyed playing water basketball and laying under the tipping bucket. The water was very wet!! Our swim made us starving so we had a snack outside the pool under a big tree before we set off again.

On our way to Devonport we stopped at Reliquaire in Latrobe to have a sticky beak. It was a really interesting shop that we needed much more time to look through properly!!

In Devonport, we went to Pandemonium. Here, we went to the Imaginarium and participated as agents in a high tech mystery. We then got a surprise...laser skirmish and rock climbing!!! We have lots of stories to tell you about this.

After unpacking our gear at Camp Banksia, we went to get takeaway from the Hawley Beach Shop. We ate our tea on the beach - best burgers ever! We highly recommend a visit. A walk along the beach helped us digest dinner as did another game of spotlight before bed.

Early night tonight...lots of sleepy heads. We need lots of energy for the rest of the week!!

Day 1

Wow - what a day!! It began at 8.30 when we arrived at school. We loaded the trailer and a few cars with our gear, and the bus with ourselves and set off on the Tour of Tassie!

Our first stop was Richmond where we split into groups to visit the Richmond Bridge, the Richmond Gaol and, of course, Sweets and Treats!! It was lots of fun going into the solitary confinement cells at the gaol in the pitch black.

After a rest on the Village Green, we drove to Zoo Doo which was fantastic!! Our highlights included being eaten by goats, feeding the emus and going on the roller coaster. We had lunch and set off for Launceston.

We arrived at Nindethana camp about 6. While we set up our beds, our helpers cooked a BBQ for dinner. Once fed and watered, we roasted marshmallows and played spotlight! Off to bed for a good nights sleep for our next day of fun!!

Tour Of Tasmania. :)

Grade 6's are extremely excited for our Tour of Tassie. We have done some fundraising, including Crazy day. We had a variety of different activities. All of the younger kids enjoyed the day. We raised a lot of money. We also have a cake stall coming up soon, down at  Dover's Southgate Shopping Center that Fiona Donato and Jasmine Abbott have organised for us! Many people are organising some other ways to also tell people about what we have done.

We will be staying at lots of different places for the 4 nights of camp. Nindethana is most likely the most popular place that we are all wanting to stay at.

Some of the activities that we are doing include a visit to the Launceston Aquatic Centre, a visit to ZooDoo and a tour of the Mt. Lyell Mine! We will be having a talent show on one of the nights, which some of us have been rehearsing for. It should be a great night!

On the Thursday night, our last night on camp, we will be having a disco to celebrate Olivia and Will's 12th birthdays. We hope that they have a good birthday and a good disco celebrating with all of their friends!

Some of us are already packed and ready! And EXCITED! :)

If you would like to keep in touch with our Tour you can read this blog which we will update every day!

Thanks for reading.:)

TOT Day 3

Today we woke up and jumped on the bus and headed to Dove Lake (part of the Cradle Mt. National Park). When we got there we jumped off the bus and had a look around but then we had to get back on to drive to the Lake. When we got there it was so pretty and amazing and we had really good weather for it. The walk took 2 hours and when we were finished we jumped on the bus and headed to Tazmazia.

When we got to Tazmazia, we got our stamp and walked into the maze. The maze was awesome it was also very big and green. Some of the things in the maze were the 3 Bears Cottage and Cubby Town. Cubby Town had lots of different cubby houses like a Church and a Supermarket. We got fish and chips for dinner, had an awesome game of anything goes netball and stayed in Camp Banksia. (Mr. Fab is one of the most unfair umpires we have ever seen). We all thought it was really cool =D
